In addition to keeping a careful eye on your eye and your gums, we offer annual oral cancer screening, for which we routinely utilize the most advanced intra-oral camera technology available. The oral cancer screening includes the use of VELscope™, an FDA-approved technology developed by the British Columbia Cancer Agency and Vancouver-based LED Dental Inc. Essentially, the dentist or hygienist shines a blue light into the patient's mouth that causes the area to fluoresce, exposing potentially abnormal tissue; the process takes no more than a minute or two, Oral cancer is one of the few forms of cancer that has not experienced a significantly decreased mortality rate in the past 30 years, largely because it is typically detected at a late stage.
